Watford
fans will have free coaches to Plymouth
By Gordon Tynan
Published: 23 February 2007
Watford are to offer their supporters
free coach travel to next month's FA Cup quarter-final
at Plymouth. The Hornets were angry at the decision
to hold the match at 6pm on 11 March, fearing
many fans would stay away because of the difficulty
of making a 500-mile round trip on a Sunday.
Their chairman, Graham Simpson,
said: "We are extremely disappointed at the
decision regarding the timing of the game without
having had any consultation with the FA. Watford
fans have been fantastic this season, and we want
to show them our appreciation by giving back some
of the proceeds from this Cup run in the form
of free transport."
Watford say they asked the FA
to reschedule the tie but were informed there
was "little or no chance of that happening".

Sunderland
After a 1-0 victory over Cardiff
on Saturday, Sunderland fans were in a rather
jovial mood. On sighting the chairman - Saint
Niall Quinn - the fans, belted out "Niall
Quinn's disco pants are the best. They go up from
his arse to his chest. They're better than Adam
and the Ants. Niall Quinn's disco pants!"
(click
here to hear it) Sadly for them, Quinn's Disco
Pants, led to the cancellation of
an easyJet flight and ended with the former Eire
striker forking out £8,000 on taxis so they
could all go home.

Charlton
Charlton's trip to Middlesborough
for the FA Cup 6th Round replay, dubbed ‘Operation
Riverside' by the club has started successfully...
3000 tickets have already been
sold within the first day, mainly thanks to
free coach and train travel supplied by the club.Queues
outside the Charlton ticket office were so long,
fans were moved inside the ground so that the
main entrance could be kept clear for cars leaving
and entering the ground.

Leicester
City
Milan Mandaric will provide
five free coaches for Leicester fans to travel
to Preston on Saturday.
City lost 2-1 to Birmingham
and remain just two points above the relegation
zone with three games left to play. But Mandaric
is confident that with the backing of the fans
the team can claw their way out of trouble.
He said: "I
would like to thank the fans for the
tremendous support at the Walkers Stadium on Tuesday
night. They definitely played the role of the
12th player on the field". |
We found many, many more examples of
clubs offering free transport and general gestures of
goodwill to their fans. At the same time, Forest fans
have to accept increased ticket prices after relegation
and be faced with marketing such as the infamous "we're
serious about promotion, are you?" campaigns.
If anyone knows of ANY goodwill gestures
from Nottingham Forest football club to it's fans, please
let us know in the forums.
