Managers Appointed by Nigel Doughty

Appointing a successful manager is one of a Chairman's key functions - the short term success of a club invariably rests on the decision.

Indeed, it is such an important decision that Brian Clough once said “If a chairman sacks the manager he initially appointed, he should go as well.”

With that said, we will now take a look a the managers Nigel Doughty has been responsible for appointing.

Manager Name: David Platt
Hired from: Unemployed. A year after retirement he had a brief stint at Sampdoria for 6 weeks which yielded no victories.
Left after: 103 games W 37 D 25 L 41
Money: Spent 12,050,000 Sold: 2.5m
Subsequent jobs: England U21 - sacked after an equally unsucesful spell. Made a concerted effort to take over at League 2 Walsall and was flatly turned down. Now does pundit work.

Key ND quote: "It is thought that the likes of the Dave Bassetts and Joe Kinnears are not going to be as effective in the future. The David Platts and Glenn Hoddles are now the managers of the future."

Manager Name: Paul Hart
Hired from: In charge of the hugely succesful Forest academy, highly regarded by the club. Only managerial experience had been an unsuccessful stint at Chesterfield where he'd been sacked.
Left after: 134 games W 42 D 44 L 48
Money: spent 1,450,000 sold: 8,650,000
Sunbsequent jobs: Took over at Barnsley and was sacked after a year after failing to mount a promotion challenge. Moved on to Rushden and Diamonds and was sacked after only 4 months in the job. Now gone back to what he's good at, developing young talent at Portsmouth.

Key ND quote: "Paul is half-way through a five-year plan with Nottingham Forest and throughout that time has made measured progress in search of our ambition to return to the premier league."

Manager Name: Joe Kinnear
Hired from: Unemployed. Was sacked from Luton Town the previous summer. Best known for his succesful time at Wimbledon maintaining their Premiership status. Regarded as a wheeler and dealer who could work well on a limited budget, but was also noted for 'direct' style of play.
Left after: 44 games W 15 D 15 L 14
Money: spent 625,000 sold: 500,000 (even though he claimed to have personally reduced the debt by 25m)
Subsequent jobs: Has never had another job and is unlikely to either.

Key ND quote: ''Joe Kinnear can spend five million on a player if he likes.." before stating that he would "rather give his cash to charity" than "overpaid footballers."

Manager Name: Mick Harford
Hired from: already at the club as he had joined to become Kinnear's assistant from Luton Town just over a month earlier
Left after: 6 games W 2 D 1 L 3
Money: Spent Nominal Sold: 0
Subsequent jobs: Took over at relegated Rotherham but was sacked eight months later after a terrible start to the season. Now assistant manager at Colchester United.

Manager Name: Gary Megson
Hired from: Unemployed. Had recently been sacked from West Brom who he left struggling at the bottom of the Premiership. Had twice lead them to promotion in the past. Had a well publicised run in with players prior to sacking. Also noted for 'direct' style of play.
Left after: 59 games W 17 D 18 L 24
Money: spent 1,950,000 sold: 8.5m
Subsequent jobs: Has not been employed as a manager since despite applying for jobs at Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves and Huddersfield.

Key ND quote: "candidates of the quality and track record of Gary Megson only become available very infrequently and we felt this was too good an opportunity for Nottingham Forest to miss"

Manager Name: Frank Barlow/Ian McParland
Hired from: Barlow was Megson's assistant, McParland was in charge of Forest's reserve team.
Left after: 13 games W 8 D 4 L 1
Money: Spent 0 Sold: 0
Subsequent jobs: Barlow left to become coach at Hull City under Phil Parkinson and was sacked along with Parkinson soon after. McParland was rumoured to have turned down the Notts County managers job and went to back to being Forest's reserve coach.

Manager Name: Colin Calderwood
Hired from: Northampton Town. Had spent three years at Northampton, getting them promoted from League 2 at the third attempt. His departure was met with a mixed response from the Cobblers fans.
Current record: 57 games W 29 D 15 L 13
Money: Spent 500,000 Sold: 0
Curerent mood: A large number of fans are calling for his head after just one season in charge. Noted for defensive style of play he has already overseen defeats to the likes of Accrington Stanley as well as a draw with at Salisbury, both infront of the Sky cameras.

Key ND quote: "If you want to win and you want to compete, it costs money"
